Avoidance is Not a Panic Attack Cure
A panic attack is a terrifying experience that comes upon a susceptible person out of the blue, without warning of the event. The physical sensations of fear such as heart palpitations, breathing trouble, and sweating escalate so quickly that the individual is sure something very bad is going to happen. In many cases, people fear they are having a catastrophic heart attack. For others, the fear is that they will lose control or collapse. Normally the sensations begin to gradually subside within a few minutes. A person’s confidence can be seriously shaken by a single panic attack, and if the syndrome reoccurs, they may begin to use avoidance strategies to try to prevent the attacks. But avoiding situations that lead to panic is not a cure. A genuine panic attack cure is what panic sufferers really need in order to live happier lives.
