A Teenage Alcohol Abuser Gets Advice From Her Older Sister

Lately, Mellissa had been drinking more than ever.  In fact, she noticed that her schoolwork had suffered, most of the money she earned with her part-time job at the local restaurant was used to buy alcohol, and her outlook and attitude had gotten worse.  And she perceived all of these issues as a direct reflection of her excessive drinking.  One day Mellissa was especially depressed and started crying when she saw Lacy, her older sister.  “Lacy, is it possible that I am an alcoholic because of my heavy drinking?  I have noticed a lot of crazy things happening in my life and I wonder if these are signs of alcoholism.”  Lacy calmed Mellissa down and said that the best course of action would be to call their family doctor and make an appointment to discuss Mellissa’s drinking habits.  Lacy told Mellissa that she might have to get alcohol treatment but that if she truly wanted to address her drinking problem and change her life, she would probably be able to go through any kind of treatment program in a successful manner.
