A Gift For My Son-in-law
My very favorite (and only!) son-in-law has a favorite place up north. Very near to his family¹s summer home is a beautiful old Dutch farmstead. The huge white barn on the site is a Michigan landmark and has been photographed endlessly. Bobby asked me if I would paint one of my pastel landscapes of the barn for their new apartment. I was honored! We visited their cottage last summer and I carted my pastels out to the farm. It was early in the morning and the light was just perfect. It¹s always nerve racking to paint a commission for someone especially a relative! But Bobby loved the finished framed piece and it now hangs prominently in their living room.
